The Ministry of Land will shortly appoint technologically-skilled workforce in non-cadre posts through the Public Service Commission (PSC) to speed up digital land management process, said Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury on Wednesday.

"The digitisation of land management has been a big challenge as land record system has been done manually for years, which has created huge case backlogs in the country's civil courts," he said.

Besides, he also acknowledged that corrupt practices at different levels of land management have made the process of digitisation more complicated.

The minister said these while delivering chief guest's speech at a mock parliament debate on 'People's Engagement in Digital Land Management' organised by Debate for Democracy at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) auditorium in the city's Tejgaon.

Moderated by Debate for Democracy chairman Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron, two teams from Dhaka International University (DIU) and Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) contested in the debate.

Referring that around 75 to 80 per cent of cases in the civil courts are land related, Mr Chowdhury said due to faults in previous land surveys like Cadastral Survey (CS), Revitionel Survey (RS), Pakistan Survey (PS), and Bangladesh Survey (BS), dispute over land rights has become colossal.

"To put an end to the caseload and dispute over land rights, the government has taken a project to carry out countryside digital land survey titled 'Bangladesh Digital Survey' using latest technologies like satellites and drones," he said.
