Students of Dhaka’s Tejgaon College have blocked the road in Farmgate over the alleged murder of Sakib, one of their classmates.
The protest began around 10:30 am, bringing traffic to a halt on nearby roads.
Kya Shan U Balpan, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Police Station, is trying to convince the protesters to clear the road, reports bdnews24.com.
Shihab Hossain, a higher secondary student at Tejgaon College, said another group of students had attacked the college’s students two days ago, injuring three to four of them.
"Among them, a person named Sakib died while undergoing treatment."
Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Ibne Mizan said that a fight broke out between two sides at the Tejgaon College Hostel on Saturday. Several people were injured in the violence.
"One of them died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday night," he said.
A case has been filed over the incident and law enforcers are investigating, Mizan said.
Efforts are being made to convince students to clear the road. They are also reaching out to teachers, he said.
