The late autumn has brought the first signs of winter to Bangladesh, with cooler nights and overcast skies signalling a temperature drop, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

BMD forecasts light to moderate fog on Saturday night across northern districts and the rest of the country, including Dhaka, reports bdnews24.com.

Temperatures are expected to increase slightly during both day and night from Sunday, as per the 72-hour outlook. However, after Dec 10, temperatures may fall further.

The lowest temperature in the past 24 hours was recorded at 9.9 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi’s Badalgachhi, while the highest was 31 degrees Celsius in Chattogram’s Sitakunda.

A mild cold wave is expected later this month, especially over districts in western and northern regions like Jashore, Kushtia, and parts of Rangpur, where temperatures could drop to 8 degrees Celsius to 10 degrees Celsius during this period.

The long-term December forecast also indicates the formation of one to two low-pressure systems in the southern Bay of Bengal, with a possibility of one developing into a cyclone.

Despite below-average rainfall in November, weather officials anticipate normal rainfall for December, including up to three days of rain in Barishal and two in Dhaka.

Humidity in Dhaka on Saturday morning stood at 73 per cent, with light north-northwesterly winds blowing at 5-10 kph.

The latest weather bulletin says that from 6:00 am on Saturday, the next two days will have partly cloudy skies and mostly dry weather across the country.
