Ten out of 17 accused were sent to jail over a case of question paper leaks of 30 recruitment exams including Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque ordered their imprisonment after a hearing on Tuesday, reports UNB.
Those sent to jail include Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam, son of Syed Abed Ali, the former driver of the former chairman of PSC, Deputy Director of PSC Abu Jafar and Md. Jahangir Alam, Assistant Director Md Alamgir Kabir, ex-army personnel Noman Siddiqui, auditor Priyanath Roy, businessman Md Zahidul Islam, security guard of Narayanganj passport office Shahadat Hossain, Dhaka immigration and passport office employee Md Mamunur Rashid and Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital’s Medical Technician Niamun Hasan.
On behalf of the accused, several lawyers, including Faruk Ahmed and Kaoser Ahmed, applied for bail after the hearing.
Earlier, the 17 suspects were presented before the court. Bail applications were filed for the remaining 10 suspects who were detained.
Syed Abed Ali and six others gave confession statements before the judge.
The case over question paper leaks was filed at Paltan Police Station on Monday night by the Cyber Investigation (CID) team.
