Detective Branch (DB) Dhaka Metropolitan police have arrested terror suspect Bappi, alias Md Ali, alias Firoz Alam, alias Ahsanul Haque, along with two accomplices, in connection with the recent gun attack on detectives in the capital’s Fakirapool area.
Three foreign pistols, six loaded magazines, and 151 rounds of ammunition were recovered from their possession.
Briefing reporters at the DMP Media Centre on Sunday afternoon, DB Joint Commissioner (South) Nasirul Islam said the arrests were made around 2:00 am on early Saturday during a raid at a two-storey house on Ghop Nowapara Road in Jashore town. Bappi, Abu Khalid Saifullah alias ‘Bomb Ripon,’ and Md Kamrul Hasan were arrested during the operation.
A pistol and two magazines containing seven bullets were seized from Bappi.
Based on his information, another raid was conducted between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm the same day at a flat in the Bashabo residential area under Demra Police Station in Dhaka. There, police recovered two more foreign pistols, four loaded magazines, and 144 rounds of bullets from a locked room belonging to Bappi, he said.
Earlier on June 18, DB police arrested one Abdur Rahman with 1,000 yaba pills from Fakirapool. Acting on his statement, police attempted to stop a silver private car headed toward Paltan around 12:20 am on June 19.
The two suspects inside opened fire on DB members, injuring three officers. However, 9,000 yaba pills were recovered from the scene along with the car and three other suspects.
Following the incident, DB launched a series of raids in Dhaka, Barishal, Satkhira, and Jashore to track down the armed drug dealers.
Legal action against the arrested suspects is underway, DB Lalbagh Division confirmed.
