Three Bangladeshi nationals were killed and two others injured in a road accident on the East Coast Expressway near Gambang town in Kuantan district of Malaysia’s Pahang state on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Md Sabber Hasan, 30, driver of the vehicle, and two passengers, Md Jahid Hasan, 21, and Abdullah, 24.

The accident took place in the area around 7:30 pm (local time) on Friday after the driver lost control of the vehicle they were travelling in and skidded off the road, according to Malaysian news reports.

Mohd Adli Mat Daud, acting district police chief superintendent of Kuantan, said a Toyota Avanza vehicle was heading from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off to the left side of the road, resulting in the fatal crash.

Three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. The injured—Md. Habib Biswas (45) and Moniram Chandra Bas (40) have been admitted to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan for treatment.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the driver, Md. Saber Hasan, did not possess a valid driver’s license, and the vehicle’s road tax had expired in May.

Malaysian authorities have urged the public to comply with traffic laws and ensure vehicle fitness before travelling, particularly during nighttime highway journeys.
