Police have recovered the bodies of three young men who allegedly died after consuming spurious liquor on Eid-ul-Fitr day at Manda in Naogaon.
Another man named Muktar Hossain, a friend of the dead, also reportedly consumed the bootleg liquor with them in a field of Bilurail village on Thursday evening, reports bdnes24.com.
He fled after the incident while police took custody of the bodies at Manda Upazila Health Complex at around 8:00 pm, said Mozammel Haque, chief of the local police station.
The bodies will be taken to Naogaon Sadar Hospital for an autopsy to determine what caused the deaths while police initiate a legal proceeding over the incident, Mozammel said.
The dead men have been identified as Shariqul Islam Pintu, 22, Ashique Hossain, 22, from Varsho Union’s Pakuria village, and Naimur Rahman Nishat, 20, from Prosadpur Union’s Dariapur village.
Ashique died on his way to the hospital while the two others were declared dead by a doctor in the health complex, said Borhan Uddin Babu, a resident of Pakuria village.
Pintu and Nishat died before being brought to the hospital, said Ananda Kumar, physician of Manda Upazila Health Complex’s emergency department.
Pintu’s father Akkas Ali said his son had left home at around 3:00 pm after having lunch and the father got the news of his death in the evening. “I cannot say how he died.”
