Three more coronavirus deaths, 54 new cases in Bangladesh

The death toll from coronavirus rose to 20 in Bangladesh as the country confirmed three more fatalities on Wednesday.

The tally of infections has also soared to 218 after 54 more people tested positive in the last 24 hours, according to data released by the health directorate.

Of the newly infected, 33 are male while the rest are female.

IEDCR director Meerjady Sabrina Flora disclosed the latest figures at an online press briefing this afternoon.

Besides, a total of 981 samples were tested across the country during the period, she revealed.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from COVID-19 disease reached 82,191 on Wednesday.

It has so far infected 1,435,091 people around the world, according to worldometer.info, an website that provides real-time updates.

Of them, 1,049,911 are currently being treated with 47,958 being in serious or critical condition, the website shows.

So far, 385,180 cases had outcomes and 302,989 (79 per cent) of them recovered and remaining 82,191 (21 per cent) died, the worldometer data also shows.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
