Three members of a family sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out from a gas leak at a house in the Narinda area of Old Dhaka early Thursday.
The injured were identified as Moktar Bepari, 55, Mosammat Selina Akter, 45, and Mohammad Selim, 33. They were admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The victims were rescued in a burnt condition and taken to the emergency department of the burn institute around 1:00 am on Thursday, where they were admitted.
Assistant Professor Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the institute, said the three victims were brought from Narinda with burn injuries caused by a fire. Moktar Bepari sustained burns on 22 per cent of his body, Selina Akter on 20 per cent, and Selim on 100 per cent. All three remain in critical condition, he added.
Meanwhile, three more people were injured in a gas line explosion in Kachua upazila of Chandpur on Wednesday. The victims — Khadija Akter, 30, Mahmudul Hasan, 36, and Shiuli Akter, 40 — were also taken to the burn institute.
Earlier, two more victims of a gas explosion at a house in Halishahar in Chattogram died, raising the death toll in that incident to five. Doctors said the condition of the remaining four injured persons is also critical.
In another incident, four members of a family, including a woman and a child, suffered burns in a gas cylinder explosion in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla early Tuesday. They were rescued and taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 6:00 am.
