A court in Sherpur on Thursday sentenced three men to death in a case over killing a minor girl after rape at Bakakura village in Jhenaigati upazila in 2016.
The condemned convicts are Amanullah, 23, Nure Alam, 28 and Kalu Miah, 30 - all hailing from the same village. Among them, Kalu Miah was tried in absentia.
According to prosecution, with the help of Kalu Miah and Nure Alam, Amanullah picked up Bina Akther, a class V student , from her house on July 9, 2016.
Amanullah took the girl to different places and raped her several times. At one stage, he strangled her to death and dumped the body in a waterbody. Her body was recovered on July 21 and a murder case was filed, UNB reported.
After examining the records and witnesses, Child Court Judge Md Aktharuzzaman handed down the verdict acquitting three other accused.
