Speakers at a function have underscored the need for social campaign to give the proper idea of zakat and its distribution system as it is one of the five pillars of Islam.
“The well-off section of the society is still ignorant about the proper ways of zakat distribution system. So they are distributing shari and lungi to the poor section of the society instead of making them self-dependent in the society,” they added.
They made the remarks while speaking at a session on ‘Examples of becoming self-reliant by zakat fund’ at the 6th 'Zakat Fair2018’, organised by Centre for Zakat Management (CZM), at Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation in the capital on Saturday.
CZM’s chief executive officer Mohammad Ayub Miah and general manager Khondokar Zakaria Ahmed, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Member secretary of the fair organising committee AMM Nasir Uddin presided over the session.
Beneficiaries from different parts of the country, who received fund and were patronised by CZM, took part in the event and shared their success stories.
The two-day fair kicked off yesterday (Friday).
