TIB urges probe into health ministry’s cancelled 'controversial' recruitment

Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB) has demanded an investigation into the health ministry's 'controversial' recruitment process which was cancelled due to allegations of corruption.

Cancelling the recruitment process is not enough after allegations of massive bribery and irregularities in the recruitment of 1,800 manpower by the Department of Health were surfaced in the media, TIB said in a media statement on Wednesday.

The anti-corruption watchdog expressed worry over the matter demanding an impartial investigation into the allegations and strict punishment for those responsible for bribery and irregularities.

TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman said that the notification of the cancellation only mentioned 'ambiguity in the register' of the recruitment process which left it unresolved that if there was any corruption in the incident, or if so, their identities and ensure of accountability remained unresolved.

“The recruitment process was cancelled following media reports and there were allegations of offering bribes specifically to high-ranking government officials. The question of whether the allegations have been verified or whether the legal action has been taken against those involved is not out of the question,” he continued.

We fear that the information about the irregularities has been leaked and the recruitment is being cancelled. And, the suspicion of collusion of the so-called 'upper house' with this syndicate has intensified. "
