The protesting students demanding the transition of Government Titumir College into a university have blocked the Dhaka-Mymensigh Highway in Mohakhali’s Amtoli.
They took out a procession carrying a banner reading “Barasat Barricade to North City” and enforced a blockade on the road around 6:30pm on Sunday.
Earlier, they had marched to Amtoli from the college campus.
One of the protesting students, Nayek Noor, told bdnews24.com: “We have taken position on the main road in Amtoli, the blockade will continue for several hours.”
Another protester Mehedi Hasan said the road blockade had begun in rejection of Education Advisor Wahiduddin Mahmud’s statement saying that “no special measures were taken” to upgrade the college into a university.
Several police personnel have been deployed in Amtoli, equipped with a water cannon.
