Train set on fire in Sylhet

An intercity train, Upaban Express, of Bangladesh Railway was set on fire by unidentified people at Sylhet Railway Station last night (Wednesday), reports BSS.

Manager of Sylhet railway station Md Nurul Islam said that fire broke out in the AC chair compartment of ‘Upaban Express’ train when it was standing at the station around 9:30pm on Wednesday. Some seats of the coach were gutted after it was set on fire.

After receiving information, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.

No casualty was reported from the incident. Details could be said after the investigation, the manager said.

Meanwhile, despite the incident of fire in the train compartment, the ‘Upaban Express’ departed Sylhet for Dhaka Kamalapur Railway Station with passengers at 12 midnight on Wednesday, said Sylhet Railway Station Master (Acting) Abu Nasser Russell.

Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Elias Sharif, Sylhet Railway Superintendent of Police (promoted to Additional DIG) Sheikh Shariful Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police e (South) Sohail Reza, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime & Ops) Masud Rana visited the spot.
