Training jet crashes into Milestone School just 12 minutes after take-off

A Bangladesh Air Force F-7BGI training aircraft crashed into a building of Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Monday, just 12 minutes after take-off, as per local media reports.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the jet took off at 1:06 PM and crashed into the school building at 1:18 PM.

ISPR reported that at least 18 people have died and 164 others were injured in the crash. All victims are being treated at various hospitals across the capital. However, the Fire Service has confirmed the death toll at 19.

Breakdown of casualties reported by ISPR from different hospitals:

  1. Kuwait Maitree Hospital: 8 injured, no deaths

  2. Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery: 70 injured, 2 dead

  3. Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka: 14 injured, 11 dead

  4. Kurmitola General Hospital: 2 dead, no injured admitted

  5. Lubna General Hospital, Uttara: 11 injured, 2 dead

  6. Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital: 60 injured, 1 dead

  7. Crescent Hospital, Uttara: 1 injured, no deaths

Following the tragedy, the government has declared a one-day state mourning to be observed on Tuesday.
