The Dhaka Road Transport Owners and Workers Unity Council has urged transport owners and companies not to ply their buses on contract basis.

The organisation also threatened to seize the transports plying on contract basis and without route permits, fitness and genuine driving licences.

Khandaker Enayet Ullah, the convenor of the council, made the announcement after a meeting at Mohanagar Natya Mancha in Gulistan on Wednesday.

However, the council convened the meeting to announce new committee, it focused on the students' agitation centring Tuesday's accident that killed a private university student.

Mentioning the previous decisions, like not to ply buses in contracts or with target and not to recruit under-aged drivers , the transport leader called upon owners and workers to take oath for not violating the decisions.

“But we found that many are not following the decisions despite we have given all notices, directions in terminals. Meetings, rallies and drives were also organised since the decisions were taken.”

Warning about further breaching of the association decisions, Enayet said the central committee of the unity will then take over control of those vehicles.

He also highlighted the issues for occurring recurrent accidents and said franchise bus service is being tried to introduce in the city providing scope of investments by all existing bus operators.

The DRTOWUC leaders also highlighted the issues of occurring recurrent accidents and demanded stoppage of target base bus plying, extortion and harassment by police etc.
