A court in Dhaka on Tuesday imposed a travel ban on Nayeemul Islam Khan, former press secretary of the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, his wife Nasima Khan Monty, daughters Labiba Nayeem Khan, Julika Nayeem Khan and Adiva Nayeem Khan, over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC in its plea said Khan is accused of amassing huge illegal wealth and covering the source of that ill-gotten money. The anti-graft body is probing allegations of making suspicious transactions of depositing Taka 3.86 billion and withdrawing Taka 3.79 billion in 163 bank accounts in his and his family members’ names.

"For the sake of proper investigation of the case, a travel ban should be imposed on them," the ACC said.

Earlier on February 9, the court ordered to freeze tax files of Nayeemul Islam Khan and his wife.
