Travel ban on ex-air chief, CSO of BAEC

A special court in Dhaka on Monday issued a travel ban against former chief of Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshal (retired) Sheikh Abdul Hannan, his wife Tahmida Begum, son Sheikh Labib Hannan and their relative Sanjida Akter in connection with corruption allegations.

Judge of the Senior Special Judge's Court in Dhaka, Md Jakir Hossain, passed the order, allowing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seeking travel ban on them.

Earlier on the day, ACC Deputy Director (Enforcement) Md Tanjib Hasib Sarker submitted the petition before the court.

According to the petition, a three-member team headed by Mr Sarker has been formed to enquire the allegations against the former air chief that he laundered a huge amount of money abroad after amassing it through corruption, abusing power, wasting public money, bribery and recruitment trade.

The ACC has come to know that Sheikh Abdul Hannan and his family members are trying to flee the country. So, a travel ban is needed to refrain them from leaving the country, also read the petition.

Following a separate petition, the same court issued a travel ban against Mohammad Monjur Ahasan, Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), and his wife Nargis Khanam.

ACC Assistant Director Anisur Rahman filed the petition, saying that the anti-graft body is inquiring an allegation against the CSO that he has amassed a huge amount of money through corruption and looting public money.

In another order, the court also issued a travel ban on Arif Ahmed Sony, deputy general manager (DGM) of S Alam Group, Riad Ahsan and Zafar Ahmed, as the ACC is inquiring corruption allegations against them.
