Eleven fishermen have been rescued, while eight others are still missing after a fishing boat capsized in the Bay of Bengal on Thursday afternoon.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard launched a search operation on Friday after being informed of the incident by the trawler's owner, Mohammad Miraj Uddin. Another trawler operating nearby rescued the eleven shortly after the accident.
Lieutenant Shakib Mehboob, media officer of the Coast Guard East Zone, said the search for the missing fishermen has been going on.
According to Miraj, the trawler had 19 fishermen when it went down. All of those missing are residents of Noakhali. Four of them have been identified as Abul Bashar, Jamal Uddin, Md Faruk, and Md Idris.
The boat owner further said that the boat left Chattogram's Fishery Ghat area for deep-sea fishing on Thursday morning.
