Two Bangladeshi migrant workers have reportedly died from cardiac complications within a span of 12 hours in the Maldives.
The men, Ahmed Kamal, 48, and Selim Uddin, 64, were both from Moulvibazar district, reports bdnews24.com.
Md Jasim Uddin, welfare assistant at the Bangladesh High Commission, said the two incidents occurred separately on Saturday in the capital, Malé.
Both workers were taken to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital after falling ill, where doctors later declared them dead, he added.
Kamal was living legally in the Maldives, and his insurance provider will cover the costs of repatriating his body to Bangladesh. Colleagues have already begun the necessary procedures.
Selim, who had reportedly been living without valid documentation for several years, was repatriated on Monday with financial support from Bangladesh’s Wage Earners’ Welfare Board and assistance from the embassy.
