Two Bangladeshi nationals were reportedly shot dead by the members of India Border Security Force (BSF) along the Pathariadar border in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria district on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Morsalin, son of Hebju Mia of Batenbari village and a HSC second year student of Gopinathpur Shahalam Degree College and Nabi Hossain, 40, of Madhupur village in the upazila, reports UNB.
The bodies of the deceased were kept at a hospital in the Agartala area of India, said the victims’ families.
Some young Bangladeshi men were injured during the firing, and they were taken to Cumilla for treatment, said locals.
Commanding Officer of Chandidar BGB Camp, Subedar Md Moinuddin, said, “We have received a report of one death. The current situation along the border is normal.”
Kasba Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Samiul Islam said that they have received information about one person who died in the BSF firing.
Witnesses said when a group of 20-25 people gathered along the border, BSF members opened fire on them, leaving Morsalin dead.
Family members of the deceased said some people called Morsalin out of the home at night and took him to the Pathariadar border.
Nabi Hossain was also present there, said his family.
Sabur, a resident of Madhupur village, said he visited the house of Nabi Hossain, and his son claimed that his father was killed during the firing.
