Two-day Int’l Cancer Congress begins in city

The two-day Bangladesh International Cancer Congress 2025, organized by the Oncology Club, Bangladesh, began at a hotel in the capital on Thursday.

Speaking at the inaugural session, experts highlighted that the rising incidence of cancer in Bangladesh and other developing countries is largely driven by unhealthy diets and irregular lifestyles.

They also identified food adulteration and air pollution as major contributors to the increasing number of cancer cases in the country, where approximately 250,000 new cases are reported each year. This year's congress has brought together more than 1,200 oncologists, cancer specialists, and researchers, including 31 distinguished experts from 16 countries, according to the organizers.

Prof. Dr. M. A. Hai, President of the Oncology Club Bangladesh and the Bangladesh International Cancer Congress, expressed deep concern over the growing number of cancer patients in developing countries like Bangladesh.
