Two die, 326 hospitalised with dengue fever in a day

Two more people have died of dengue while 326 new patients have been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease across Bangladesh over the past 24 hours.

The number of patients hospitalised with the disease this year rose to 8,870, while the tally of deaths climbed to 36, bdnews24.com reports. 

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said as many as 73 new patients were hospitalised in the Dhaka metropolitan area until Wednesday.

In addition, 41 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, five in the Mymensingh, 43 in the Chattogram, 16 in the Khulna, 29 in the Rajshahi, 118 in the Barishal, and one in the Sylhet.

As many as 1,085 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country.

Of them, 318 were hospitalised in the capital with 767 across the rest of the country.

In 2024, a total of 101,214 patients were hospitalised due to dengue nationwide, with 575 fatalities reported.

This marks the third-highest number of hospitalisations due to dengue in the country’s history, while the death toll ranks as the second-highest.

The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and fatalities since 2000.
A record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. That year also saw the most deaths with 1,705.
