Two die in Jamalpur road accident

At least two people have died in Jamalpur’s Melandah as two motorcycles collided head-on while returning home from a wedding party.

The accident occurred around 2:00 am on Thursday in the Miarpara area of Melandah municipality, said Melandah Police Station chief (OC) Obaidur Rahman.

The dead, identified as Kajal Mia, 42, from the Dhaluabari area of Hazrabari Municipality in the Upazila, and Akash Mia, 20, are an uncle and nephew

They both worked at a salon in Hazrabari Market, reports bdnews24.com.

Another motorcyclist named Sayem, 22, was injured in the accident and received treatment in the hospital.

Citing the relatives of the dead, police said Kajal and Akash were returning home on a motorcycle around 2:00 am after attending a wedding party in Mahmudpur. As they reached Miapara, they collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

Akash died on the spot. Locals rescued Kajal and took him to Melandah Hospital, where doctors sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Later, around 7:00 am on Thursday, Kajol died while undergoing treatment there.

Nur Islam, a night watchman in the Miapara area, said: "Suddenly, I heard a loud noise and went closer to find that one person had already died, while the other was not in good condition. Later, I made arrangements to send him to the hospital."

Officer Obaidur said police recovered the body along with two bikes from the scene that night and brought them to the police station. Legal action is underway in this regard.
