Two election officials in Jagannathpur, Sunamganj, were dismissed after an investigation uncovered their involvement in fraudulent voter registration using biometric data in exchange for money.
The two individuals arrested for irregularities are upazila election officer, Mujibur Rahman and data entry operator Zubair from the election office.
The Director General of the NID wing, ASM Humayun Kabir, stated that legal action would be taken against them following their arrest, as per a local media report.
Mr Kabir said that attempts were made to register 106 expatriate Bangladeshis as voters using local residents’ biometric data in Jagannathpur Upazila.
"A team from the NID wing in Dhaka conducted an investigation in Jagannathpur and found evidence of the malpractice," he added.
Mr Kabir further stated, “They have been temporarily suspended, and a case has been filed to initiate departmental action.”
