Two people, a student and a female garment worker, were killed in separate road accidents in Sreepur and Sadar upazilas of Gazipur district on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Bilkis Akhter, a resident of Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur, and Nirmal Sarkar, son of Nirmal Sarkar of Bahadurpur village of Gazipur. Nirmal was a first-year student at Medical Assistant Training School (MATS), Gazipur.
In Sreepur, Bilkis died after being run over by a bus while she was crossing the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near the Cotton Development Board around 8:00 am.
An Amani Paribahan bus from Sherpur to Dhaka hit her in the area, leaving her dead on the spot. Bilkis was working as a junior operator in Trust Knitwear Industries Limited, as per media reports.
In a separate accident, the college student Nirmal was killed after his motorcycle hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Rajendrapur area around 7:00 am. He died on the spot.
