Two workers have been killed in a fire extinguisher explosion at a factory in Savar in the suburbs of Dhaka, according to police.
Savar Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Jewel Miah said the incident occurred inside the Rahimafrooz factory in Birulia union’s Khagan area around 5:00 am on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Oliur Rahman, 50, from Narsingdi's Raipura Upazila and Foyez Uddin, 45, from Bhola.
Both of them were daily-wage workers of the factory, reports bdnews24.com.
Faiz’s brother Monir Hossain said the authorities bought fire extinguishers for the Rahimafrooz factory on Monday.
The explosion erupted early in the morning when the equipment was being unloaded from a pickup, leaving the two dead on the spot.
They were rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar after the incident.
Later, police received the bodies and sent them to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
“An investigation is under way in this regard," Jewel said.
However, the factory authorities did not make any statement about the incident.
