The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two more suspects in the killing of Rahat Hossain Rabbi, who was stabbed to death at a Banani shisha bar in Dhaka earlier this week.
The latest arrests brought the total number of detainees to six, bdnews24.com reports.
On Saturday, RAB-1 Senior Assistant Superintendent Salman Noor Alam said the two men -- Maksudur Rahman Hamza, 26, and Munna, 27 -- were nabbed from Borura in Cumilla on Friday.
According to the RAB, the suspects confronted the 31-year-old victim on a stairwell as he left the “360 Degree” bar around 5:30 am Thursday.
Police said Rabbi, a Mohakhali resident and internet businessman, was attacked while descending from the fourth floor to the second. Witnesses told investigators that he collapsed after being stabbed repeatedly and was declared dead shortly after being rushed to the hospital.
On Friday, police detained four others in Banani -- Mir Hossain, 22, Fazle Rabbi, 24, Sabbir Ahmed Sumon, 30, and Arafat Islam Fahim, 27. A Dhaka magistrate ordered them into custody.
The RAB later described Munna and Hamza as the “prime suspects”, alleging they intercepted Rabbi and questioned why he was there before an argument escalated.
Munna then allegedly pulled out a Swiss gear knife from his pocket and stabbed him. Based on their statements, RAB said it recovered the murder weapon from Rajia Sultana Road in Mohammadpur.
Investigators believe the killing stemmed from a feud over influence inside the Banani shisha lounge.
The RAB said Rabbi had ordered Munna out of the lounge around 1:00 am Wednesday. That expulsion, coupled with long-standing rivalry, likely triggered the fatal attack hours later.
