The Department of Narcotics Control has seized a consignment of the drug “ketamine” from Dhaka’s Tongi, saying it was set to be smuggled to Italy.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the agency said: “6.44 kg of the dangerous drug ketamine was seized during an attempt to smuggle it to Italy hidden in towels. Two suspects were arrested.”
The statement did not mention the names of the arrestees, saying further details would be announced at a press conference on Sunday.
Although experts say ketamine can be used as a sedative for operations, narcotics control officials claim the drug is increasingly being used recreationally and is being smuggled from Bangladesh to other countries.
