Two members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) have been injured by gunfire during an anti-drug raid in Paltan area of Dhaka.
The incident occurred at 12:45 am on Thursday opposite the Central Police Hospital, reports bdnews24.com.
Police had instructed a car to stop when the passengers opened fire at the law enforcers.
Assistant Sub Inspector Atik Hossain was struck by a bullet on the left side of his stomach while Constable Sujon was struck on the left knee.
They were rescued around 2:30 am and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Both of them are still receiving treatment there.
Enayet Kabir Shoaib, senior assistant commissioner of the DB's Lalbagh Division, said, "A tip-off was received regarding drug traffickers and a raid was conducted. A car was signalled to stop. Suddenly, they opened fire from inside the vehicle and two of our people were shot."
The vehicle has been seized and three people have been detained from the spot, he added.
