Two senior officials of Bangladesh Police's Rangpur division have been sent on compulsory retirement following their involvement in the murder of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayed.

The officials who have been retired are Md Moniruzzaman, commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police, and Md Abdul Baten, DIG of Rangpur range.

The home ministry on Tuesday issued separate notifications placing these officials on compulsory retirement. The notifications were signed by Md Jahangir Alam, Secretary of the Police Branch-1 under the ministry's Public Security Division, in accordance with the President's orders.

Earlier, in the Abu Sayed murder case, police had arrested a 16-year-old juvenile. Later, under various pressures, the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Amir Hossain and Constable Sujan Chandra Roy of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RMP) were suspended and withdrawn from the police lines.
