Two women were assaulted at a hotel in Dhaka’s Banani on Wednesday night.

Monir Hossain, convener of Banani Thana Jubo Dal, led the attack, police said on Thursday, according to local media reports.

Alongside Monir, several Jubo Dal activists participated in the assault, according to police.

Authorities at Zakaria Hotel in Banani have filed a case, but no arrests have been made so far.

A video, widely circulated on social media, shows a woman in a saree running down the hotel stairs, while a man blocks her path and strikes her, causing her to fall.

In the same video, another woman is seen being chased down the stairs and thrown to the ground, with both women assaulted by a group of eight to ten people.

The video also captures the women screaming during the attack, while some attackers leave the scene and others join in.

Banani Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Md Russell Sarwar confirmed that Monir led the attack on the women seen in the video.

As the video went viral, drawing widespread condemnation, Jubo Dal expelled Monir and revoked his membership.

The Jubo Dal has also instructed members to sever ties with him and urged law enforcement to take appropriate legal action.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner S N Md Nazrul Islam said police are actively searching for the accused, and the investigation is ongoing.
