The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Monday suggested all the public and private universities introducing online education to run academic activities during the coronavirus pandemic.

The UGC also suggested installing the software ‘Zoom Application’ of Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) for the continuation of higher education and research during time of corona pandemic to minimise possible academic losses.

And, BdREN can ensure the free installation of the application and make it easily accessible and available for the teachers and students of the universities, so that they can address the losses during vacations caused by corona outbreak, said the UGC in a press statement.

And, to avail the services, teachers will have to provide their detailed information and attach respective vice-chancellor in the email, it added.

The online education system during the time of corona has already got popularity across the globe and some local institutes are running the facility to curb the possible disruption of academic activities, UGC mentioned.

Besides, the ‘Zoom Application’ can also create mass awareness among people-- including teachers and students, experts and doctors -- in the process, it added.

Earlier, on March 19, a meeting was held with the education minister in the chair where the issues were discussed, including the role of education ministry and UGC during the coronavirus pandemic, the statement added.

UGC also urged the respected university teachers to contact BdREN support centre through email address [email protected] or contact number +880-9612-11009, +880-2-8181002 to avail the services.
