The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) concluded a six-month-long effort to develop a comprehensive road map for LGED's institutional excellence in digitalisation.

The culmination of this joint initiative was marked by a dissemination session held today at the LGED Headquarters, said UNOPS in a statement on Wednesday.

Under the broad Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between UNOPS and LGED, the collaborative project aimed to harness digital technologies to enhance LGED's institutional efficiency and effectiveness.

Grounded in international best practices, and utilising UNOPS' global network of expertise, an initial ICT Maturity Assessment was created to establish evidence-based justification for targeted improvements in how LGED leverages technology to deliver its vital services to the people of Bangladesh.

Subsequently the proposed interventions have been further analysed, costed and consolidated to create an ambitious and feasible action plan in the form of a detailed ICT road map.

The road map is designed to serve as a guiding framework for LGED as it endeavours to align itself with the government's vision of 'Smart Bangladesh by 2041’, according to the statement.

The dissemination session was graced by the presence of Md. Ali Akhtar Hossain, Chief Engineer of LGED, was the chief guest, while Sudhir Muralidharan, Country Manager for UNOPS in Bangladesh, attended as the special guest.
