An unidentified woman, around 32 years old and homeless, was killed after being hit by an unknown vehicle in the capital’s Banani area early Friday, police said.
Sub-Inspector Md Sohel of Banani Police Station, said the incident occurred around 2:30 am in front of the Naval Headquarters in Banani. The woman sustained critical injuries and was found lying on the road, as per a UNB report.
Being informed, police rescued her and took her to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at around 4:00 am, where doctors declared her dead.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police said efforts are underway to identify the deceased. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been informed, and fingerprint analysis is being conducted to help confirm her identity.
Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area to trace the vehicle responsible for the accident, said SI Sohel.
DMCH police camp in-charge Inspector Md Faruk confirmed that the body is being preserved at the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
