Begum Rokeya University (BRU) has extended financial support to the family of Abu Sayeed, a second-year English department student of the university recently killed during the quota protests.

A university delegation visited his parents at their home in Rangpur’s Pirganj on Friday and handed them over a cheque of Tk 750,000.

Confirming this, Proctor Shariful Islam said the university is in constant contact with the bereaved family by order of the Vice Chancellor Hasibur Rashid.

Such support will continue as pledged by the vice chancellor, he added.

As well as the proctor, Head of the Department of Bangla Tuhin Wadud, General Secretary of the Teachers’ Association Asaduzzaman Mondol and President of the Officers’ Association Firozul Islam, among others, were present during the cheque handover.

Earlier on July 16, Sayeed was killed in police firing during the quota protests. Vice Chancellor Hasibur Rashid had then promised that the university administration would stand by the family.
