US court suspends arrest warrants against Salehuddin, Mansur

The warrants of arrest issued against Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed and Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur by US District Judge Carl J Nichols in a case over the cancellation of a deal between the Bangladesh government and a US-based company were withdrawn on Friday.
Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the United States Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey gave the information in a Facebook post on Saturday, local news portals said.
The ambassador said Smith Cogeneration (Bangladesh) filed the case over the cancellation of a deal by the Bangladesh government, led by Awami League, in 1999.
The US court had issued the warrants following an appeal from the company to get the testimony of Salehuddin Ahmed and Ahsan H Mansur for the realisation of $31.9 million in arbitration awards against Bangladesh.
