Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus says he is ‘very happy’ to welcome his old friend Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar bin Ibrahim to Dhaka.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the premier arrived at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport a little after 2pm on Monday.
Ibrahim is the first head of state to make a visit to Bangladesh since the interim government led by Yunus took power. He was given a guard of honour at the airport.
The two leaders held a brief one-on-one meeting at the airport. The chief advisor spoke briefly on the student-led revolution, highlighting the sacrifices made by the students and the people, and the ‘carnage’ caused by the previous government.
Yunus also spoke about his long association with Malaysian universities and its leaders.
The two then boarded the same car to travel to the venue for the bilateral meeting in an expression of their close friendship.
