‘Volunteers play vital role in building resilient community’

UN Resident Coordinator in Dhaka Mia Seppo said volunteers play an important role in building a resilient community.

She made the remarks while speaking at International Volunteer Day celebration event held recently in the city, said the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Dhaka on Tuesday.

UNV Bangladesh, (UNIC Dhaka) and United International University jointly organised the event. This year's theme was 'Volunteers Build Resilient Communities'.

Among others, Sultana Afroz, wing chief (UN) and additional secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Anis Mahmud, additional secretary from Ministry of Youth and Sports, Md Aktar Uddin, National Programme Analyst and Country Focal Point for UNV Bangladesh, Prof Dr Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, Vice Chancellor, United International University, Dr Mohammad Moniruzzaman, National Information Officer, UNIC, actress Bonna Mirza, MA Muhit, Everest winner spoke at the event.

The volunteers shared their exciting experiences on how they are contributing to sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the country, reports UNB.

Speakers said IVD is a unique opportunity for volunteer-involving organisations to work with government agencies, non-profit organisations, community groups and the private sector.

About 300 participants, including civil society members, youths, volunteers, NGOs, academia, UN volunteers and key stakeholders, attended the event.
