The Election Commission (EC) sent directives to Police Headquarters to ensure security at voter registration centres during the ongoing voter list update, EC Deputy Secretary (Election Support Branch) Md Mahbub Alam Shah said on Sunday.

Mr Shah said that EC directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) regarding the matter.

Voter registration will take place from February 05 to April 11 based on data collected through door-to-door visits as part of the 'Voter List Update Program 2025', according to the directive.

The registration process will include the use of laptops, cameras, fingerprint scanners, iris scanners, document scanners, and printers.

The voter list update activities will be at districts, upazilas, and police stations levels.

The EC official said that the EC underscored the need for adequate police deployment at registration centers on scheduled dates to ensure security.

A total of 65,000 personnel have been appointed to carry out the voter list update, with a target of adding 1.52 per cent of citizens to the electoral roll, according to the EC.

UNB adds: Though the door-to-door data collection campaign of the ongoing electoral rolls updating programme-2025 is set to end today (Monday), eligible people will still be able to register as voters.

Those who were born on or before January 01, 2008 but could not fill in the form-2 (the voter registration form) during the door-to-door data collection, can visit their designated registration centres with the required documents to complete their registration process.

The eligible persons will be able to fill in the form, providing photographs and fingerprints at the registration centres, said a press release of the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday.
