Former Exim Bank Chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder has told a Dhaka court that he was compelled to go to Ganabhaban and speak there.

He made the remark on Wednesday morning as he was produced before Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judges’ Court in two separate fresh murder cases.

Alleging that Mazumder was among those who were involved in plotting the July mass killing, Chief Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi asked the court to place him on remand.

Strongly opposing the remand, Mazumder’s legal team presented counter arguments one after another not to place him on remand, asserting that their client had no role in the mass killing.

After hearing both sides, the court ordered that Mazumder, also a former president of Bangladesh Association of Banks, be sent on 10 days of remand, five days in each of the two fresh cases.

Mazumder, who appeared in court wearing a mask, a helmet, a bulletproof jacket, a Punjabi, and Keds shoes, was visibly dejected as the remand order was issued.

Earlier on October 1 last year, the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Mazumder from Gulshan over an August 28 murder case filed at Jatrabari Police Station against 85 people.
