A woman died reportedly due to wrong treatment after giving birth to a child through caesarean section at a private hospital in Chandraganj Upazila of Laxmipur district early Sunday, reports UNB .

The deceased was identified as Mariam Begum, wife of Md Salauddin Ahmed.

Quoting victim’s relatives, officer-in-charge of Chandraganj Police Station Md Jafar Ahmed said Mariam was taken to Chandraganj Royal Hospital and Diagnostic Centre at around 2:30 am after she went into labour where its owner Dr Solaiman Hossain recommended caesarean section.

Mariam was taken to the Operation Theatre (OT) around 4:00 am and she gave birth to a baby boy through surgery conducted by Dr Solaiman alone without any anesthetist.

After the surgery, Dr Solaiman asked her relatives to shift her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital citing her condition was not good although the patient died on the operation table.

He also fled from the hospital.

Later, agitated relatives besieged the hospital and vandalised it.

Meanwhile, hospital manager Bayazid Hossain said the victim died due to heart failure.

Additional police were deployed in the area to fend off further trouble.
