A woman was allegedly killed on a moving bus in Dhaka’s Ashulia, while her father was thrown from the moving vehicle onto the road on Friday.

Ashulia Police Station SI Bijon Kumar Das said they had recovered the body from the side of the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in the Muragang area at around 8:30 pm.

The victim was identified as 45-year-old Jarina Khatun from Sirajganj.

Her father, 70-year-old Akbar Ali Mandal, said he and Jarina had paid a visit to her daughter in Ashulia’s Gajirhat area in the afternoon.

“In the evening my daughter Jarina and I boarded a bus headed for Tangail in Ashulia’s Unique area on our way home to Sirajganj. The passengers on the bus beat us and stole our mobile phones and the cash we had on us. The bus made the rounds and returned to Ashulia. They threw me from the bus while it was in motion near Ashulia Bridge.”

He reported the incident to a police patrol who later found the body about a kilometre away next to the highway.

SI Das was quoted by bdnews24.com as saying, “There was some discolouration around her throat and so we believed they strangled her and then dumped the body.”

Police have been unable to identify the bus.

Jarina’s son-in-law Noor Islam filed a case over the death against several unnamed individuals, including the bus driver, assistant and supervisor, at Ashulia Police Station.
