Woman with mental disability gives birth on Chattogram street

A woman with a mental disability has given birth to a baby boy next to a road divider in Chattogram city.

The incident occurred on Friday near the Dewanhat intersection.

Upon receiving word of the birth, a traffic sergeant rushed her to hospital.

“Around 12pm, I was stationed at the Dewanhat traffic box when someone informed me that a woman with a mental disability was lying next to the road divider and had just given birth,” said Traffic Sergeant Zahidur Rahman.

Zahidur subsequently rushed to the scene with a constable, shielding the mother with an umbrella.

As there were no female police officers present, they asked a few women passersby to help. Eventually, one woman came forward to assist the mother and the newborn.

They were later taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital in an ambulance.

Doctors confirmed that the baby was in stable condition.
