Amid growing incidents of mob attacks over child-lifting rumours, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said those who are responsible for the killings will not be spared, reports UNB.

About six people have been killed and 15 others injured in mob beatings triggered by rumours of child abduction, the minister told reporters at the Secretariat. Nine cases have been filed and 81 people arrested so far.

“Those who are responsible for the killings won’t be spared. They’ll be made accused in murder cases,” he said. “Everyone involved in such criminal offences will get the same punishment and the culprits will be identified from video footages.”

He asked all to call emergency 999 or take the suspects to the nearest police stations.

The minister urged all not to believe any news found on social media. “Many of those who spread rumours on social media have been arrested and the rest will be hunted down soon,” he said.

Asaduzzaman said police have already arrested seven people over the lynching of a woman in Badda following a child-lifting rumour. “Others involved in the incident will be identified and arrested,” he said.

Fur more people have been arrested for spreading rumours about Padma Bridge.
