The World Asthma Day 2025 was observed yesterday (Tuesday) across the country, aiming to create awareness among patients, healthcare service providers and others.
The theme of the day this year was "Make Inhaled Treatments Accessible for ALL".
Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), a collaborative agency of the World Health Organization (WHO), introduced the day, which takes place on the first Tuesday of May each year.
Chest and Heart Association of Bangladesh (CHAB) President Dr Zahirul Islam Shakil told the FE they held a rally and a scientific seminar at the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) premises in the city's Mohakhali area.
Besides, different groups among the public and private healthcare facilities held discussion programmes highlighting various aspects of the non-communicable disease.
Asthma in Bangladesh is a substantial public health problem, as an estimated 11.6 million people-- including 4.1 million children-- suffer from the disease.
