The High Court has dismissed a writ petition that sought a directive to prevent BNP leader Ishraque Hossain from being sworn in as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), thereby clearing the way for his oath-taking.

An HC bench comprising Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury passed the order on Thursday (May 22).

Following the court’s decision, Ishraque's lawyer, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, said there is now no legal barrier to administering the oath to Ishraque as mayor.

Earlier, the hearing on the writ petition began on Tuesday at 1:00 pm and continued until nearly 2:00 pm, after which it was adjourned. The hearing resumed at 4:10 pm and continued until around 5:15 pm. The court initially set 12:30 pm on Wednesday for delivering the verdict. However, the ruling was later rescheduled for Thursday.
