A young man was hacked to death at the Gouripur Bus Stand on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Al-Mamun alias Mamun Samrat, son of Mosharraf Hossain alias Mukbul Member, a resident of Sholakandi village in Titas upazila of Cumilla.
The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on the Dhaka-bound lane of the highway, said Md. Zunaid Chowdhury, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daudkandi Model Police Station.
“Mamun, along with three women, boarded a bus from Dhaka heading to Cox’s Bazar. When the bus made a stop at Gouripur Bus Stand, Mamun got off to buy water,” he said.
“As he stepped off the bus, 3-4 assailants armed with sharp weapons ambushed and attacked him. They ensured his death by hacking him repeatedly before fleeing the scene,” said the OC.
The OC added that Mamun had 23 cases filed against him in various police stations, including Daudkandi and Titas, involving charges of murder, narcotics, and extortion.
