Police on Sunday arrested a young man from Kalirbazar area of Sherpur over the 'rape' of an ethnic minority girl.
The detainee was identified as Rocky Miah, 22, son of Ratan Mia of Kacharipara village in Sherpur municipality area.
Later, he was produced before a court which sent him to jail.
According to the statement of a case filed over the incident, Rocky used to stalk the victim, a Garo girl, on her way to and from her educational institution, reports UNB.
On Tuesday, Rocky and his sister Ria Akhter abducted the girl and took her to capital Dhaka. Rocky raped the girl throughout the night confining her to a house at Biswa Road Kazibari.
As local representatives pressurised Rocky's father, the girl was taken back to Sherpur on Wednesday night.
The victim was admitted to the hospital on Thursday morning as she fell ill. She was still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
