A youth stabbed the father of a bride to death and injured her mother at a wedding ceremony at Dilu Road in Moghbazar area of the city on Thursday.
M Ramjan, a sub-inspector at Hatirjheel Police Station, said there was a wedding ceremony of Tula Mia's daughter Swapna at Priyanka Community Centre behind the old BGMEA Bhaban.
At one stage, the police officer said, Sajeeb Ahmed Rocky, 25, stormed the venue and stabbed Tula Mia, 55, and his wife with a sharp weapon indiscriminately, leaving them critically injured, reports UNB.
Tula Mia was taken to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead. His wife, Firoza, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
However, guests at the wedding ceremony caught Sajib red-handed and handed him over to police after a thrashing.
Officer-in-charge of Hatirjheel Police Station Muhammad Abdur Rashid said Sajid used to stalk Swapna whenever he found her on the streets.
